How soon can medical assistance arrive after a wreck?

On Behalf of | Sep 29, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

When someone is injured in a car accident, one of the most crucial elements is how far that accident is from the nearest medical center. Even if it is reported right away – which doesn’t always happen with remote crashes – there is going to be some delay in response. It will take time for the medical team to arrive at the scene of the crash.

But, depending on the injuries people have suffered in that accident, every minute could be crucial. Injuries that happen when someone is close to a hospital may be treated quickly and allow them to make a full recovery in time, while the same exact injuries that happen farther away from the hospital may prove to be fatal.

The risk on rural roads

This is just one of the reasons that studies find rural roads to be more dangerous than city streets. When you look at the number of fatal accidents per miles driven, they tend to be much higher in rural areas. Some of this is due to higher speed limits, lower rates of seat belt use, higher rates of impaired driving and other such factors. But a lot of it simply stems from the fact that hospitals are located in cities and so treatment arrives much faster.

In fact, accidents in very remote locations can get expensive because of the cost associated with transporting the individual to an appropriate medical center, along with the care that they need. Those who have been injured because of someone else’s negligence, such as injuries suffered in a car accident caused by another driver, may be able to seek financial compensation to help them cover these costs.
