3 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Drive Near Large Trucks for Extended Periods

Large trucks are on America’s roads constantly. Without them, it would be impossible for us to enjoy the products we do every day.

However, large trucks pose serious threats to nearby motorists.

These massive, heavy machines have the potential to inflict major damage to anything and anyone in their paths.

Read on to learn three reasons why it’s dangerous to drive near large trucks for extended periods of time.

#1 - The blind spots on large trucks are enormous.

You may think the blind spots on your small passenger car make it difficult to see who is around you, but have you considered the blind spots on a large truck?

Truckers have major blind spots on all sides of their vehicles.

As you can see in the graphic above, big rig drivers are unable to see in the following areas:

  • 20 ft ahead
  • 30 ft behind
  • One lane to the left
  • Two lanes to the right

Driving in a truck’s blind spots for too long can present dangers if the truck suddenly needs to slow down, stop, or swerve in order to avoid a collision.

#2 - Tire blowouts are relatively common.

When a truck blows a tire, there can be serious consequences for any nearby drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, etc.

As you probably know, truck tires are much larger than passenger car tires, which means that the potential for flying debris is very high. The last thing you want is to get hit with a piece of the truck’s blown tire, which can force you into a collision with another vehicle.

#3 - Trucks are not simply large cars.

Trucks do not operate in the same ways as passenger vehicles. The maneuverability of a commercial truck is nothing like your passenger car.

It can be very difficult for a truck driver to avoid a collision when there are vehicles on all sides of the truck. Of course, you cannot control what other people do, so it’s in your best interest to stay far away from trucks whenever possible.

As you know, truck accidents have the potential to cause serious injuries. If you’ve been hurt in a truck accident through no fault of your own, you may be owed compensation. Let our team see if we can help you recover it.
